The ‘special’ circuit Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button both agree has the best fans in Formula 1

F1 is becoming increasingly popular around the world and series like Drive To Survive are creating a new generation of fans.

Not only that, but Formula 1 is making plans to grow around the world, with new circuits being touted to join the calendar all the time.

The Madrid Grand Prix will join the roster in 2026, the same year the Dutch Grand Prix falls off the F1 calendar.

The likes of Rwanda, South Africa and South Korea among many others are hoping to join Madrid in finding a way onto the 24-circuit line-up going forward.

Thailand may be closest to joining the F1 calendar, but whether teams will agree to a 25th race being added to an already congested schedule is up for debate.

However, what’s not up for debate is how popular Formula 1 is wherever it goes, particularly as Liberty Media try and grow its popularity in the United States.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have both been asked in the past about which circuit has the best fans and they ended up coming to the same conclusion.

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton agree on Silverstone having the best fans in Formula 1

The British Grand Prix has been a staple of the F1 calendar since the first season in 1950.

The venue has changed over the years, with Silverstone hosting every race since 1987 when it used to rotate alongside Brands Hatch.

Speaking to The Mirror in 2013, Button said: “It is tough when you’re not doing well because the fans here are so supportive.

“Since I’ve realised they will always support me like that it was [a] very special feeling, very emotional.

“You expect there to be fans when you are doing well but when you really need them is when you are struggling and that’s when they’ve been there for me and the team.

“I love seeing the Union Jacks and the support from the British fans and I want to give them a result they deserve because they have been so fantastic.”

More recently, Hamilton spoke to GPBlog about his favourite British Grand Prix memories and replied: “I think 2008. I think it will always be probably the most special.

“My first Grand Prix win here and in the rain. And as my first, I’ll say engagement or the beginning of the journey with the fans here.

“2021 was still, I think, a great feeling.

“I think I’d been on such a long journey with the British fans and we have such great, really the best fans here.”

Formula 1 set to race at Silverstone until 2034 after the British Grand Prix extension

With more and more circuits trying to enter Formula 1, it’s becoming more competitive than ever to remain on the calendar.

There are several circuits, such as Imola and Mexico City, that are only contracted until 2025 and could be replaced.

However, the British Grand Prix will be on the grid until at least 2034.

Hamilton is the most successful driver in history at the British Grand Prix, and if he wins his first race as a Ferrari driver at the circuit in 2025, he would stand on the top step of the podium for the 10th time in his career.

Button was never lucky enough to win at his home race, and in fact, he never even stood on the podium at Silverstone.

However, the circuit is becoming more popular than ever, with a festival atmosphere surrounding the race and Lando Norris even having his own grandstand for the 2025 edition.
