Timo Glock shares the ‘incredible’ feat Max Verstappen achieved during his latest GT3 test, ‘absolutely at the top level’

The 2025 Formula 1 schedule is absolutely relentless for drivers, teams and the media, with 24 race weekends crammed into 39 weeks.

While some drivers used the break between the latest race in Miami and the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to rest before the upcoming triple header, Max Verstappen had other ideas.

The Red Bull driver entered a GT3 test at the Nordschleife under the pseudonym Franz Hermann.

Verstappen has never hidden his love for all forms of motor racing, and his desire to race in series beyond Formula 1.

Tom Kristensen has suggested Verstappen could compete in 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside his F1 duties.

He decided to use the break in the season to hone his skills with his toughest title defence so far on the horizon.

Former F1 driver and DTM star Timo Glock has now shared what those who attended Verstappen’s test told him about his outing.

It’s safe to say that his talents in Formula 1 translate across to other disciplines.

Max Verstappen’s ‘incredible’ GT3 feat at the Nordschleife shared by Timo Glock

Glock was speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse Podcast about the 27-year-old’s latest GT3 outing.

Verstappen has proven his talents in GT3 machinery before, and Glock explained, “Yes, I think he hadn’t even left the pit lane yet when he somehow received five WhatsApp messages, ‘Can you imagine Verstappen driving up here at the Ring?’

“Once the team where I got my permit back then, they followed up on it straight away, they weren’t far away from it and from one or two mechanics, and also from my team.

“In the end, he delivered an incredible performance. What I heard was that the first or second-timed lap was absolutely at the top level.

“That has to be his first test in the GT3 car up there, he had never really driven on the Nordschleife before, of course, he had done everything on the simulator beforehand or spent a lot of time on the simulator and that shows how well you can adapt to it and also the talent of Max Verstappen, that is beyond question.

“But a 7:53 I think, which he drove, is a really top time, if you can do that on your second lap.”

Red Bull hoping to solve Max Verstappen issues ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola

Verstappen is 32 points behind Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ championship after six rounds, a deficit that could easily be made up this season.

However, the difference in McLaren’s pace compared to the Dutchman suggests that Red Bull have their work cut out.

Red Bull are hoping McLaren are hampered by rule changes arriving at the Spanish Grand Prix, but team principal Christian Horner needs to look within his own team to make the next step up.

The next race is set to see Red Bull make a radical change to Verstappen’s car, but drastic action taken by teams in the past during this era of Formula 1 hasn’t always gone to plan.

Aston Martin haven’t been able to nail an update package in years, and Ferrari’s ill-fated upgrades introduced in Spain last season arguably cost them the constructors’ championship.

Verstappen and Red Bull will hope they’re not about to suffer the same fate.
