What the early “F1” movie reviews are saying ahead of New York premiere

F1 is set for its World Premiere later today at Radio City Hall in New York City, and after a press screening last week, the early reviews are in for the upcoming film directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Reactions from film critics have been pouring in following the screening, and so far, the Brad Pitt-led film has been showered with praise. In fact, I’m yet to find a negative review.

The film, starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, and Kerry Condon, will hit international theatres on 25 June before it’s release in North America on 27 June. The film has been created in close collaboration with Formula 1, with filming taking place on actual race weekends and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton acting as executive producer to ensure a high level of realism.

What are the early critics’ reviews of F1?

Drew Taylor, senior writer at The Wrap, posted: “F1 The Movie is absolutely incredible. It’s one of the coolest, most entertaining movies you’ll probably ever see, but none of that sizzle takes away from its soul. Kosinski precision engineered an eye-popping, edge of your seat pop epic that makes you feel so much. I adored it.”

Variety editor Jazz Tangcay wrote: “WOW! F1 is an action-packed thrilling look at the world of F1 racing, with lots of grit. The sound, score and cinematography are flawless. Damson Idris and Brad Pitt are great! Absolutely obsessed.”

Rotten Tomatoes critic Austin Burke claims: “F1 The Movie delivers in every way. This high-octane racing epic is a pulse-racing spectacle from start to finish. The outstanding sound design, electrifying score, and heartfelt story combine to make it THE must-see movie of the summer. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris make for a fantastic duo, and the supporting cast brings the right energy. Rarely does a film impact the senses like this—F1 demands to be experienced on the biggest screen possible.”

Maude Garrett from Nerdist, said: “F1 The Movie is so freaking good. It has all the adrenaline, heart, pacing, story and character that completely fleshes out this movie into excellence. I can only imagine how much MORE I would love this movie if I was a fan of F1 racing! Maybe I am now?”

National entertainment editor for The Sun Mark Daniell was another to shower the film with praise: “You don’t need to know a thing about F1 to cheer for F1 The Movie,” he wrote. “This is the perfect summertime blockbuster packed with emotion, action, a killer soundtrack, and top notch performances from Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon. Strap in for a wild ride!”

Creator and host of Film Speak Griffin Schiller commented: “F1 The Movie is THE cinematic event of the summer! The holy trinity of Kosinski, Miranda, & Zimmer are firing on all cylinders to create one of the most visceral, exhilarating, jaw-dropping spectacles I’ve ever experienced.

“Pitt is captivating in this remarkably self reflective journey through his tumultuous time in the spotlight that doubles as a poignant exploration of passion, ego, celebrity, regret, and media narratives. The intensity & drama reaches such operatic heights and the races are the most immersive put to screen. F1 DEMANDS the IMAX experience. What a rush, what a picture!!!”
