Williams boss James Vowles won’t like what Alex Albon’s manager has just said about the state of F1 contracts

Alex Albon has been one of the stars of the 2025 Formula 1 season so far and is leading Williams’ charge through the pack.

Since he joined them back in 2022, they have improved a great deal. The acquisition of James Vowles as team boss was a very smart appointment.

He believes that with Albon and teammate Carlos Sainz, the team has one of, if not the strongest line-up in Formula 1.

Now sitting fifth in the constructors’ championship, it’s going to be a real test for Williams over the rest of the year as they attempt to hold their new position.

Albon recently ignored Williams team orders in Miami after a mistimed message created miscommunication, otherwise, he would have obeyed and sat behind Sainz.

After his string of solid performances, Martin Brundle called Albon ‘feisty’ and believes that he is in the form of his life so far this year.

Williams boss James Vowles won’t like Alex Albon’s manager’s assessment of F1 contracts

Already, 25% of the current season has been completed, and heads will start to turn towards the big 2026 F1 regulations soon.

Fortunately, Williams have two drivers under contract and do not have to worry about hand-selecting a driver for the new era.

However, Albon’s manager, Jacques Heckstall-Smith, has recently said some things about contracts which may unsettle him.

“In terms of future proofing though, I could give you the boring answer – the simple answer, which is well, get a good contract, get a solid contract, hide loads of clauses in there that protect them [drivers],” he said.

“There’s so much money in the sport now that a contract is only worth the piece of paper it’s written on. Every contract can be broke, it’s just the price. Someone is going to be willing to pay that price, as we’ve seen with past experience.”

How long is Alex Albon under contract with Williams for?

Albon’s most recent contract extension was signed one year ago, as he penned a multi-year deal with his team.

Now in his fourth season with them, his current contract will expire after the 2026 campaign at the very least.

There’s no exact information on whether he has the option for an extension in there, but judging by his recent performances, Williams are only going to want to keep him.

Their recent investment in infrastructure should mean that they will only continue to go from strength to strength. They could be title contenders before the end of the decade.
