David Croft worried about Fernando Alonso after he made one Aston Martin request at Las Vegas Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso has endured a frustrating season at Aston Martin as the team have continued to flounder in the midfield.

The Spaniard has struggled to score points since the summer break, as the midfield is incredibly competitive.

Aston Martin started the season well as Alonso scored points in the first six races of the championship as they were on the fringes of the top five.

Alonso was very quick in Saudi Arabia, in particular, as he qualified fourth on the grid before finishing in fifth place at the chequered flag.

More recent rounds have been a struggle for Aston Martin as Lance Stroll didn’t start the Sao Paulo Grand Prix and Alonso finished in 14th place.

David Croft was worried on Sky Sports F1 about the two-time world champion who requested one thing from Aston Martin in practice for the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Alonso suffered with bouncing significantly at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix last time out as the Aston Martin driver was in considerable pain over the 71-lap event.

The problem was back in Las Vegas, as the track is also bumpy and requires the car to be run very low to maximise the ground effect.

Some drivers have also endured this issue such as Lewis Hamilton at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2022 before he struggled to fourth place.

The ground effect cars were introduced in 2022 when bouncing was a significant problem for all 10 teams on the grid.

Croft commented during FP2 that it wasn’t good to see the Spaniard experiencing the same issue again after Alonso requested a change on the radio.

Alonso said: “I think you need to change the setup, a lot of bouncing.” Before Croft added: “For a man who was in a hell of a lot of pain in at Interlagos with the bouncing in his Aston Martin.”

Fernando Alonso will be hoping Aston Martin can finish fifth in the Constructors’ Championship

Aston Martin are in no man’s land in the Constructors’ Championship as they sit fifth in the standings behind the top four teams.

They are a distant fifth and should have enough of an advantage over Alpine with their 37-point lead with three rounds to go.

A fifth place finish in the standings will provide more prize money than sixth although it is a step backwards from last season.

Alonso feels Aston Martin are missing two things to become world champions but the arrival of Adrian Newey and Honda works engines should boost them.
