Eddie Jordan explains why Ferrari have been ’shambolic’ despite challenging for the Constructors’ Championship

Ferrari have improved a lot over the season and got their car under control after last season’s SF-23 was very difficult to drive at times.

The Italian team are battling for their first Constructors’ Championship since Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen won the title in 2008.

Ferrari are second in the championship ahead of the final two rounds and sit 24 points behind the leader, McLaren.

They need some luck to intervene, and Gian Carlo Minardi feels Ferrari lacks the serenity to win the championship and take it away from McLaren.

The final two rounds are going to be solely focused on the battle for the constructors’ title after Max Verstappen wrapped up his fourth world championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Eddie Jordan told the Formula For Success podcast that Ferrari have made some really lacklustre decisions at times, which may stop them from winning the title.

Ferrari have become a frontrunner this season as they have taken five victories and been consistently in and around the podium.

The Italian team were somewhat fortunate to escape a time penalty with Carlos Sainz after he crossed a white line at the pit entry in Las Vegas.

These small errors can cost points and add up over a championship battle where the margins are so fine at the front of the field.

Jordan explained that only one team boss in recent memory was able to get the best out of the team and the Scuderia makes needless errors.

He said: “I think Luca di Montezemolo was about the only one who could control the team. But consistently, Ferrari have screwed up, haven’t they? They screw up with the wrong tyres. They screw up with this. I mean, it’s just shambolic from time to time, and we think it’s going to improve.”

Ferrari have had a history of making errors in the pit lane, such as in 1999 when Eddie Irvine lost time due to indecisiveness from the team at the European Grand Prix.

The tiny errors need to be ironed out ahead of the 2025 season as Ferrari may have a car and driver line-up good enough to win both titles.

Lewis Hamilton is joining Ferrari for next season after a frustrating end to his illustrious stint at Mercedes which began in 2013.

Charles Leclerc may be nervous about Hamilton’s arrival but the pair should have the ability to win races and compete effectively over a season.

There will be no clear number one driver at the start of the campaign, which should help harmony within the team, particularly in the opening few rounds.

Hamilton will be 40 by the time the 2025 season kicks off, so he won’t be at Ferrari for a significant amount of time.

The Italian team will have to deliver quickly, and Hamilton may need the rear of the car to work if he can take a record-breaking eighth world championship.
