Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri clashed in the closing stages of the Canadian Grand Prix while battling for fourth position.
The Briton was on fresher medium tyres and reeled in Piastri in the closing stages, with him attempting a move initially at the Turn 10 hairpin.
Norris would get ahead briefly, but Piastri cut back through, and the pair went side-by-side down the back straight. Piastri outbraked him into the final chicane, but compromised his exit, allowing Norris to stay in his slipstream exiting the corner.
Norris would then collide with the rear of Piastri, causing damage to his front suspension and forcing him to retire on the spot. George Russell felt Norris was at fault for the collision, having discussed it in the post-race cool-down room.
Fans took to social media to react to the incident, with some explaining what they loved about Norris’ response on Instagram.

F1 fans love how Lando Norris responded to Canadian GP incident
Norris immediately held his hands up in the aftermath of the clash with Piastri, admitting he was at fault and called it “silly” over team radio. The pair were later seen shaking hands in the media pen.
Fans felt it was a mature response from Norris, with one commenting: “Very mature to immediately blame himself in such a moment full of adrenaline, not that easy.”
“Lando taking full responsibility was a class act,” wrote another fan, while one said: “Big mistake by Lando, but he was so honest admitting it.”
Another fan said: “Lando took the whole responsibility and I love this about him,” while one fan wrote: “Fair play to Norris for owning up straight away on the radio. That’s a rarity nowadays and something few drivers would do.”
One fan said: “Poor decision, but at least he owned his mistake and didn’t blame the others.”
Lando Norris now over 20 points behind Oscar Piastri
Norris is now over 20 points behind Piastri, leaving Canada, having failed to score points for the first time this season.
It is also the first time that neither McLaren driver has finished on the podium this year, such has been their consistency so far in 10 races.
Driver | Points |
Oscar Piastri | 198 points |
Lando Norris | 176 points |
Max Verstappen | 155 points |
Nico Rosberg thinks the race was a ‘watershed’ moment for the 2025 title battle, with him now backing Piastri for the title.
Norris will need to ensure that he finishes ahead of Piastri in the next swing of races to ensure that he closes the points gap to his teammate.
