Alpine are considering whether to swap Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto as soon as the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, sources have told F1 Oversteer.
It was another difficult race for Alpine driver Jack Doohan at the Miami Grand Prix as he failed to complete the first lap.
The first six race weekends of the 2025 Formula 1 season have seen four drivers fail to score a point at this point in the campaign.
Doohan is joined by two-time world champion Fernando Alonso in that club, as well as Gabriel Bortoleto and Liam Lawson.
Lawson has already been swapped by Red Bull but was at least parachuted into their sister Racing Bulls team with Yuki Tsunoda going the other way.
However, Doohan wouldn’t have that luxury and Franco Colapinto has been waiting in the wings since the winter break when he was signed on loan from Williams.

Alpine consider Jack Doohan and Franco Colapinto swap a case of when not if after the Miami Grand Prix
Doohan was furious at the Miami Grand Prix after Sprint qualifying, missing out on setting a final flying lap after getting stuck in the pit lane and subsequently caught in traffic.
He didn’t make any progress during a chaotic Sprint Race, but outshone teammate Pierre Gasly in qualifying, reaching Q2 while the Frenchman failed to make it out of the first session.
Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ended for Doohan, and he made contact with Lawson heading into the first corner, ruining the New Zealander’s race and causing terminal damage to the 22-year-old’s Alpine.
While Flavio Briatore suggested Colapinto will be Alpine’s reserve driver at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, it appears as though a shift has taken place within the Alpine camp.
F1 Oversteer understands that a swap between Colapinto and Doohan this year is a case of when and not if at this stage.
Not only that but Alpine are believed to have considered swapping in the Argentinian earlier if another team was sniffing around to sign him, however, Red Bull’s interest in Colapinto never materialised.

Jack Doohan fully focused on upcoming triple-header after Miami Grand Prix retirement
Doohan has faced question marks over his future ever since making his debut in Abu Dhabi last season.
Alpine haven’t helped his cause by signing so many reserve drivers over the winter break with Colapinto at the front of the queue.
Team principal Oliver Oakes has praised Doohan for ignoring the noise around him, although he and Briatore have never fully committed to the Australian’s long-term future within the team.

Doohan was understandably frustrated after the race and said, “It was a tough end to the weekend for my side of the garage. We were starting from the middle of the pack which always creates a challenge coming into the first few corners.
“We were squeezed going into turn one and with nowhere to go we had contact with Lawson.
“The damage was too much to make it back to the pitlane safely and we ultimately had to retire the car. We showed some promise in the Sprint Race, especially in managing the difficult weather conditions, and I felt comfortable in the car across the weekend.
“Our focus now shifts toward the next few races. We have the week ahead to reset and work to prepare for the upcoming triple-header as we head into the start of the European season.”
Alpine now have a two-week break to decide if now is the right moment to introduce Colapinto to their driver line-up.
The pressure will then be on the Argentine to perform, with Alpine insiders extremely impressed with Paul Aron behind the scenes as he waits to make his F1 debut.
