Lando Norris suffered a costly crash in the final part of qualifying at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. He will have it all to do on Sunday as he lines up 10th for the race.
The Brit came in too fast into turn five and caught the curb, sending his MCL39 into the wall. The session was red-flagged as his car was cleared before getting back underway.
McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri was the only driver to set a time in the session before Norris crashed. The Aussie has now been gifted a huge advantage for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Piastri edged closer to Norris in the drivers’ championship with his commanding win at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The first driver to win multiple races in 2025, the 24-year-old is proving to be a fierce competitor for the title.
Everyone in the paddock thinks Piastri has more potential than his teammate as he begins to put pressure on the Brit for the title. It appears Norris is struggling to cope with the Aussie breathing down his neck – his crash in Jeddah will not help matters.

Formula 1 fans mock ‘bottler’ Lando Norris for his crash in Q3 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
Norris will be absolutely furious with himself after his Q3 crash – he has handed his rivals a great opportunity to leapfrog him in the standings as he sits P10 for the Grand Prix.
Jamie Chadwick says Norris needs to stop beating himself up, as he will hand his rivals a psychological advantage. His crash in Jeddah is the last thing he needed, and fans did not hold back on X (formerly Twitter) as he made another mistake under pressure in his bid to win the title.
One fan said: “Yup Lando is feeling the pressure,” while another wrote: “As soon as pressure kicks in… He flops.”
Some users warned the McLaren driver he will fall out of the title picture if these mistakes persist. One said: “Norris won’t fight for the title like this,” while another echoed: “Doesn’t have the mentality this year completely lost every edge he had over Oscar.”
Others saw it as another example of the Brit ‘bottling’ it and handing a huge leg-up to his rivals. One fan wrote: “LANDO NORRIS HAS BOTTLED IT AGAIN!!! BUT ITS A CARS FAULT,” while another had it confirmed to them: “I keep telling you every week. Lando Norris is a bottler.”

Martin Brundle says Lando Norris has a ‘very big challenge’ ahead after Q3 crash
Max Verstappen claimed pole position in Jeddah by just one hundredth of a second over Piastri, with George Russell third. All three drivers have the chance to pass Norris in the standings if he cannot make up ground on the tight and twisty street circuit.
Speaking on Sky Sports F1 after the accident, Martin Brundle said Norris now has a ‘very big challenge’ ahead of him on Sunday, as Jeddah is an extremely tough track to make overtakes on.
“He hit the throttle really hard, it took a bit of swap and… boom. It jumped over the kerb. When it landed it just bites and takes him off,” he said.
“It would have been in the wall before he even knew it. We hand the points out on Sunday, but that’s given him a very big challenge tomorrow on a track that is hard to overtake.”
