Jerry Bruckheimer brands Martin Brundle and David Croft as “heartbeat” of “F1” movie

F1 movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer has discussed the cameos of Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft and presenter Martin Brundle in the upcoming film.

Both Croft and Brundle appear in the film as commentators – a request from executive producer and seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.

“We did 19 hours in a studio in London late afternoon, and Joe [Kosinski] was in LA,” Brundle explained about his part in the upcoming film.

“Because they wanted to just finesse all the bits of action, then the action changed, and then the storyline changed a bit, so we’d do it all again. The attention to detail was very, very impressive.

“Crofty did a bit of ad libbing, but that’s… he’s always got a ready word, hasn’t he? And the right word, it must be said.”

Bruckheimer showered the pair with praise during the world premiere of the Brad Pitt-led film red carpet.

“Well, they were great,” the producer commented to Sky Sports F1’s Craig Slater. “You know why? Because they kept us honest. If they saw something in the movie, they said ‘now wait a second guys, that wouldn’t happen,’ we changed it. And they were terrific.

“They’re the heartbeat of the film, they’re so important for an American audience who knows nothing about F1. They explain everything to you. That’s what’s so great about what they do.

“So, if you’ve never seen an F1 race, know nothing about racing, when you walk out, you know what it’s all about in an F1 race and what goes on. They know about the tyres, your audience knows about everything, it’s fantastic.”

F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski and led by Pitt and Damson Idris, is set for international release on 25 June before a release in North America on 27 June.

Early reviews have come in for the action-packed film, and so far, they are overwhelmingly positive from those outside of the F1 world.
