Lewis Hamilton provides one-word verdict on Charles Leclerc’s new Ferrari helmet design

Ferrari shared a new promotional video for the 2025 Formula 1 season on Monday. It showed Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc together for the first time, each donning their new race suits.

The Scuderia are looking to capitalise on the hype surrounding their new driver line-up. Hamilton is the most successful driver in F1 history, while Leclerc is an eight-time Grand Prix winner who’s been at the forefront of the sport’s next generation.

Their upcoming battle has generated a rare level of excitement. Martin Brundle has called Leclerc F1’s fastest driver – though not necessarily the most complete – so it will be the ultimate litmus test of Hamilton’s speed at the age of 40.

Last week, the former Mercedes driver completed his first laps in a Ferrari (the 2023 car) at the Fiorano circuit. Leclerc also took to the track in the afternoon, though he completed less running.

The duo are back in action between Tuesday and Thursday this week, having travelled to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. This will represent their first truly significant TPC mileage of the year.

Like the rest of the teams, Ferrari will unveil their 2025 livery at the F175 event in London next month. But they’ll also hold a specific launch a day later ahead of pre-season testing at the end of February.

Lewis Hamilton approves of new Charles Leclerc helmet

Leclerc has revealed a brand-new helmet design for 2025. It isn’t a radical change from last year, but the colour scheme has been reworked.

Now, the top half of the helmet is almost entirely red, save the white strip over the top that represents the Monaco flag. That will be visible on the onboard feed.

The bottom of the helmet is mostly white in another nod to his national colours. Leclerc finally scored his first win in the principality last year.

Teammate Hamilton wore a new ‘Modena yellow’ lid for his first test last week. But it’s unclear whether he’ll adopt it for the first race of the season in Australia.

The Englishman is certainly a fan of Leclerc’s new look. He offered a one-word verdict in the comment section on Instagram, simply writing ‘clean’.

Charles Leclerc will ‘never’ win F1 title unless he does one thing at Ferrari this season

Guenther Steiner says Hamilton should welcome the ‘pressure’ of racing for Ferrari this year. Fred Vasseur’s team have a huge chance to win the world championship.

They only finished 14 points adrift of McLaren in the constructors’ last term. And Martin Brundle believes Ferrari have made gains over the winter, more so than their chief rivals.

There’s a great deal for Leclerc to lose this year. If he can’t beat an ageing Hamilton, many will question his long-term credentials in the sport.

Indeed, pundit Mike Hezemans says Leclerc will ‘never’ win the title if Hamilton outraces him. It will be a sign that he lacks the all-round skillset to go with his fearsome qualifying pace.
