Lewis Hamilton will receive one ‘benefit’ when he joins Ferrari he has at Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton is set to receive one benefit when he joins Ferrari next season that he currently gets at Mercedes.

Switching teams in Formula 1 is never a straightforward affair, as it can often mean a big change in personnel and the culture of working for some drivers. In the case of Hamilton joining Ferrari, he leaves Mercedes having spent the last 11 years at the UK-based team.

It will no doubt be a big culture shock for the seven-time World Champion, however, Ferrari has welcomed him with open arms by giving Hamilton access to Enzo Ferrari’s old house in Maranello, a privilege previously only enjoyed by Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton will also part ways with long-time race engineer Peter Bonnington as part of the move, with the Briton moving into a different role next year while also keeping watch of Andrea Kimi Antonelli. This has led to questions over who will take over when Hamilton joins Ferrari.

Discussing the upcoming change on Sky Sports F1, journalist Ted Kravitz has revealed that Hamilton will inherit the same engineering team as Sebastian Vettel and will also recieve one benfit he currently gets at Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton to have ‘benefit’ of using right-hand side of the Ferrari garage

Hamilton currently uses the right-hand side of the Mercedes garage as George Russell uses the left-hand side, something he has favoured since joining the team in 2013.

According to Kravtiz, he will also get that benefit at Ferrari along with the engineering team previously used by Vettel who was racing for the team between 2015 and 2020.

“One benefit is that he’s going to get his favoured right-hand side of the garage. Lewis always likes the right-hand side and he’s got that at Mercedes, and fortuitously or not for Ferrari, it’s currently Charles Leclerc who has the left-hand side so he will be able to have that favoured right-hand side,” said Kravitz.

“He will also have the Ferrari engineering team of Riccardo Adami and his side that engineered Sebastian Vettel. Now I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Vettel has had some words of advice and encouragement, and maybe some tips on how to get the most out of that engineering team.”
