Loic Serra shares what has surprised him the most about Lewis Hamilton ahead of Ferrari reunion

Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is officially complete and preparations are now underway for his first season in scarlet red in 2025.

The seven-time champion starts what could be the final chapter in his career after 12 successful seasons with Mercedes.

Hamilton forged an impressive legacy there, but he will be looking to achieve similar things with Ferrari over the next few campaigns.

A teenage Charles Leclerc already warned Hamilton that it wouldn’t be possible for a teammate to beat him to a Formula 1 title.

The Brit is chasing a crown that would see him eclipse Michael Schumacher and may set him apart as the greatest driver of all time.

Not everyone agrees with that idea though, with ex-Ferrari boss Ross Brawn saying Hamilton isn’t above Schumacher.

Lewis Hamilton surprised Loic Serra with ability to ‘feel’ an F1 car

A switch to Italy will see Hamilton reunited with former Mercedes engineer Loic Serra, who now works within the Scuderia’s chassis department.

They will be working together to chase down the likes of McLaren and Red Bull who are expected to be their main rivals in 2025.

It’s the 39-year-old’s experience and feeling for a car which should come in handy when it comes to developing their car in a positive direction.

They’re the sort of attributes that caught Serra by surprise in their Mercedes days when working with Hamilton before.

“Lewis will bring experience and dedication to the work,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He has many qualities but what has surprised me the most over the years is his ability to “feel” the car and understand what is missing. These are fundamental indications for technicians.”

Can Lewis Hamilton win an F1 title with Ferrari?

Hamilton will face one of his toughest tests in 2025 as he partners the extremely fast Charles Leclerc, a driver who is a cut above most on a Saturday.

Qualifying form was a worry for the seven-time champion last season and is why there will be some worries about his new job.

His focus is to win another Drivers’ Championship though and points are won on a Sunday, where he still has plenty of ability.

As was the case this year, hitting the ground running at the Australian Grand Prix will be crucial for competing later in the season as any advantage can prove to be a lasting one.

They won’t want to make the same mistake McLaren made in 2024 and leave themselves with too much of a deficit to turn around if they start the campaign on the back foot.
