Lewis Hamilton scored his best result as a Ferrari driver so far with P4 at Imola, but the mood at Maranello is now hugely different compared to when the Briton first arrived.
Ferrari finally welcomed Hamilton to the team in January, following an 11-month wait since he agreed to sign his two-year contract. But since Hamilton realised his childhood dream by joining Ferrari, the performance of the SF-25 has not allowed the Briton to enjoy big results.
His best efforts in the SF-25 have come in F1 Sprint events after Hamilton won the Shanghai Sprint from pole and came P3 in the Miami Sprint. The 40-year-old did give the Tifosi cause to cheer in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, though, as Hamilton climbed from P12 up to P4.

No one at Ferrari will talk about winning the 2025 drivers’ or constructors’ titles ‘anymore’
Hamilton endured Ferrari’s biggest problem of qualifying at Imola, with the SF-25 especially unpredictable with low fuel, to bow out in Q2 for the second time in the first seven rounds of the 2025 F1 season. Also, Charles Leclerc recorded his first Q2 exit of the season at Imola.

One full and one virtual safety car helped the Scuderia racers climb through the order in the team’s backyard last Sunday. But, ahead of this Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix, ‘no one’ in the race department at Maranello will speak about Ferrari winning either title in 2025 ‘anymore’.
According to Motorsport.com, it would now be ‘hearsay’ for Ferrari’s engineers to say they can win either title this season with the Scuderia already 165 points behind McLaren in the F1 constructors’ standings. Leclerc and Hamilton are fifth and sixth in the drivers’ standings.
Ferrari would also still trail McLaren by 34 points if they combined their 114 points with the 131 that Red Bull have registered to sit third in the championship behind Mercedes on 147. Leclerc and Hamilton trail McLaren star Oscar Piastri in the drivers’ standings by 85 and 93.
Fred Vasseur felt Ferrari were ‘positive’ to fight for both 2025 championships after F1 Testing
Ferrari have not written off the 2025 season entirely and switched their focus to the 2026 F1 regulations, though. Hamilton and Leclerc are likely to receive new parts at the British Grand Prix, with Ferrari working on a rear suspension upgrade to make the SF-25 more predictable.

Additionally, Ferrari will use Leclerc’s 2024 Monaco GP-winning rear wing in the Principality in 2025 to save costs and improve their car’s rear downforce. But the Scuderia’s belief that both titles are now out of the question marks a huge change since the campaign kicked off.
The opening seven rounds, which yielded one podium finish thanks to Leclerc’s P3 in Saudi Arabia, have been enough for Ferrari to lose the positivity that team principal Fred Vasseur voiced after F1 Testing in Bahrain in February that both titles were on the cards this season.
“We want to fight for both championships, as we know we have two drivers who can do it, and the mood in the team is very positive,” Vasseur said, having led Ferrari to second place in the 2024 F1 constructors’ standings as they lost out on the title to McLaren by 14 points.
