Peter Windsor decides if Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton has a better chance of winning the 2025 F1 title

Ferrari are heading into the 2025 season with their best chance to win a championship for 15 years and one of the best driver pairings they’ve ever had.

Lewis Hamilton will line up alongside Charles Leclerc as the Scuderia attempt to dethrone Red Bull and McLaren at the top of the pile.

Ferrari will have a special livery for Hamilton’s first season as they welcome a seven-time champion to their ranks for the second time in their history.

They finished 2024 with the second-fastest car and trending in the right direction, so with a good winter of development under team boss Fred Vasseur, they could be right at the front for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.

Hamilton won’t have to deal with an extreme Mercedes issue anymore with the Ferrari car being a little kinder to his driving style.

It could yield better results and help to fix a one-lap pace deficit which plagued him last season alongside George Russell.

Peter Windsor picks Charles Leclerc over Lewis Hamilton for 2025 F1 title

Leclerc has been with Ferrari for six years now and is entering his seventh Formula 1 season with them. He knows the team inside out and it will have been tailored to his needs.

It makes Hamilton’s arrival difficult as he needs to adjust to an evironment which has been setup with his Monegasque rival in mind.

Peter Windsor believes that Leclerc has a better chance to win a title than his new teammate over the course of a 24-race campaign.

“I think that ratio is about right. I think Charles has a much better chance of winning a championship over a long season than Lewis,” he said.

“I would give him much higher than a 17% [chance], that’s ridiculous. That doesn’t make any sense to me at all. All you can do is look at the driver and the championship and say, if you’re Lando Norris now, what chance have you got of winning the championship in 2025?

“I would say at least 85%. I’d say Oscar Piastri has got an 84% chance. That’s how I would look at it, that’s how my brain works.”

Why Lewis Hamilton might surprise everyone and win the 2025 F1 title

After three years of being subjected to the midfield at the best of times, Hamilton is going to be motivated and ready to chase a record eighth Drivers’ Championship.

His main competitors for the honours are Leclerc, Lando Norris and reigning champion Max Verstappen who is chasing a fifth consecutive crown.

The Dutchman began his current run with an epic duel alongside the Brit in 2021, beating him with a spectacular last lap overtake at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

He hasn’t quite recovered from that disappointment and it’s exactly what makes Hamilton such a dangerous and formaidable competitior.

There would be no greater honour or way to sign off from his career than to avenge his defeat and win the title with Ferrari before walking off into the sunset. Putting his skillset into the right car, it’s still very much a possbility.
