Ralf Schumacher says Lando Norris must ‘urgently’ address one issue after losing to Oscar Piastri at the Miami Grand Prix

Pressure is building on Lando Norris to find a result after losing to teammate Oscar Piastri at the Miami Grand Prix for the third consecutive event.

The Brit now trails the drivers’ championship leader by 16 points, and has struggled to find much form since the season-opener in Melbourne.

Norris showed excellent pace at the Miami Grand Prix, but it came too late after he had lost time trying to overtake Max Verstappen on separate occasions.

McLaren have the fastest car and hold a comfortable margin currently, but Piastri has enjoyed the bulk of the dominance so far by taking four wins in six races.

After his uncharacteristically slow start to the year, Norris has been told to make a ‘clinical’ change if he wants to beat his rivals.

Andrea Stella noticed Norris made a crucial error in Miami and believes that he might have won without opting for an ambitious move on lap one.

Ralf Schumacher says Lando Norris ‘urgently’ needs to be less careful in his McLaren F1 car

Norris aimed a spiky comment at Verstappen after his lap one move resulted in him losing four places and may have ultimately cost him the win.

However, it was a sign of aggression from the Brit which has been missing so far this season. It was about time that he sent a reply to the Dutchman.

Speaking to Sky Sport after the race, Ralf Schumacher shared what he thinks Norris needs to do if he wants to remain in the title fight.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with Norris. He was always very determined in the car and in the series before, he lost that a little.

“Maybe because he’s too careful and has too much worry about losing points and the connection. He urgently needs to work on that. He also quickly lost the reputation, people just keep it in. While Piastri even forced Max Verstappen to make a small mistake and is through inside.”

Why Lando Norris could get upset with McLaren after Oscar Piastri performances

Now that Piastri is higher than Norris in the championship, he may be the first port of call for new upgrades if they’re in scarce supply.

Not only that, but decisions on track may go in his favour too, particularly if one strategy may be preferred to another.

Norris could get ‘upset’ with McLaren with the team expecting that orders at some stage during the 2025 Formula 1 season will be inevitable.

In a fight against Red Bull, they cannot afford to spare anything. Being efficient and quick in their decision-making will help them extend their advantage, regardless of whether it infuriates their drivers.
