Ferrari’s long wait to win a 17th Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship continued after a tense battle with McLaren and Red Bull during the 2024 season.
Going into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ferrari knew they had to overturn a 21-point deficit to overtake McLaren.
The odds were always against them, particularly as Charles Leclerc picked up a 10-place grid penalty for installing a new energy store and then was surprisingly eliminated in Q2.
His teammate Carlos Sainz started on the second row ahead of his final race for Ferrari and immediately benefitted from Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri’s first-corner spin.
Unfortunately, Lando Norris’ assured drive to win his fourth race of the season denied Ferrari the chance to overtake them in the standings.
That’s not to take anything away from Leclerc’s brilliant drive from 19th to third to earn his final podium finish of the season.

While F1 fans are typically much more interested in how the Drivers’ Championship finishes, bonuses for staff members are normally based on how each team performs in the team standings.
A report from Autoracer has now shared how much each Ferrari staff member would have earned from finishing second to McLaren this year.
How much Ferrari staff members earned in bonuses from Constructors’ Championship finish
Although the exact amount of prize money distributed to each Formula 1 team every year isn’t officially disclosed, Autoracer estimates that between £1.1bn and £1.25bn is likely to be given out between each manufacturer.
Although McLaren won the championship, historical bonuses are also paid out which benefits Ferrari the most given their ever-present record in F1.

Autoracer report this could be worth around £39m which will help them stay underneath the cost cap going into 2025.

They believe that Ferrari reserve a ‘significant’ amount of money for bonuses each year and suggests each staff member will receive around €14,500 which equates to just under £12,000.
This is said to be in line with bonuses in recent seasons, but the number would have been higher if they had won the championship.
Red Bull staff would have lost out on parts of their bonus due to Sergio Perez, with the 34-year-old unable to match Max Verstappen’s performance levels this year.
If he had, they would have walked to the 2024 title, but Ferrari can’t have any gripes about either of their drivers, with Leclerc only finishing 66 points ahead of Sainz.
Ferrari will hope to win the 2025 Constructors’ Championship with Lewis Hamilton addition
Although very little is changing when it comes to the Formula 1 regulations heading into 2025, the grid is going to look significantly different.
Ferrari have signed Lewis Hamilton to replace Sainz and will hope the presence of the seven-time world champion helps them make the jump above McLaren next year.
It would be harsh to say that working alongside the 39-year-old will give Ferrari staff a boost as the work Sainz has done behind the scenes can’t be underestimated.

Ferrari have been heading in the right direction with their car development since an update they delivered at the Spanish Grand Prix briefly put them on the back foot.
If they can find a way to make both Leclerc and Hamilton comfortable – and most importantly quick – in their 2025 car, then they’re likely to be McLaren’s closest competitor once again.
